Manor house garden

The starting point

The original brief was to create a private landscaped manor house garden containing different areas of surprise and interest. We subsequently merged the garden with that of
an adjacent cottage when it was acquired midway through implementation.

Our solution
We began with the hard landscaping, which included a main pathway featuring rose arches. Reclaimed York stone and bricks were used for the seating area close to the house, a seating area within our purpose designed woodland garden and for a patio outside the artist’s studio. For the driveway we introduced a circular water feature.

A stone staircase and terrace was constructed to help merge the two gardens into one at the rear. Reclaimed brick and cobble pathways were laid around the cottage leading to a herb garden. We also installed an ornamental stone rill leading to another patio and secluded seating area.

The planting has been carefully considered to provide year round interest. Specimen trees enhance privacy, while flowering evergreens and herbaceous perennials help create a sense of natural rambling.

We are involved on a continual basis to develop and maintain the gardens, which now encompass around 1.5 acres.
