The roof terrace of our client’s prestigious central London apartment represented
a superb opportunity to create an external living space. The apartment is fitted
to an extremely high standard and the building itself has stunning architectural
values.
We used a combination of Iroko hardwood decking and contrasting natural limestone
to pave the terrace in segments reflecting the internal layout of the apartment.
To mask an adjacent plant room, an ebonised hardwood and frosted glass screen in
a contemporary Japanese style was installed on a raised platform along the whole
terrace length. In front of this we evenly spaced a series of stainless steel and
ebonised wood planters containing large topiarised box balls for dramatic effect.
A stainless steel rill was built at seating height between the paving and raised
platform. Within this, water flows over river washed pebbles to produce a wonderfully
calming effect.
Lights located in the rill and centred on each of the planters create very stylish
night-time illumination.
