Our clients briefed us to create front and rear gardens that would add to the quality
of their prestigious home. The front needed as many parking spaces as possible,
and the rear had to provide for entertaining on a grand scale.
It was agreed that a rather formal design would be most appropriate. With this in
mind, for the hard landscaping we used granite setts with a black stone banding
laid in a strong geometric pattern. The stairs and access points were
re-aligned
to balance with the layout. And the existing walls were rendered and painted in
a pale colour to maximise light reflection.
Stone urns placed in key locations provide focal points when viewed from the house.
A controllable lighting system was installed to enhance the overall effect. This
includes small recessed lights in the rendered walls, which illuminate the steps
and parking areas, and also lights in the stone banding. Uplighters dramatically
pick out the stone urns and specimen trees.
The planting provides year round interest. Dense evergreen hedging is used on the
road frontage. While, at the rear, clipped box hedges frame flowering roses and
seasonal bedding.
